BBAO: Is Woodson angling for new deal?

By Kevin Seifert

We're Black and Blue All Over:

Green Bay Packers cornerback Charles Woodson is the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year. He'll turn 34 in October and has three years left on his contract. So is he angling for a new deal, especially in light of reports that New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is doing the same?

That was the implication of a Denver-based FOX report, but Woodson told's Jason Wilde that he hasn't discussed anything with the Packers.

It wouldn't be the first time that a player sought to cash in on late-career success. Woodson will earn $7.5 million this season, but his base salaries decrease in 2011 and 2012, a nod toward the fading likelihood he would be starting at cornerback so late in his career. That might have seemed the case when the deal was struck in 2006, but who knows at this point.

I would consider this a back-burner issue for the Packers right now, but it's one to keep an eye on.
