Fantasy Friday: Shaun Hill's projections
By Kevin Seifert
This week will mark an interesting intersection between the fantasy football world and, er, the real one. ESPN fantasy expert Matthew Berry is bullish on Detroit Lions quarterback Shaun Hill this week based on the team's tendencies during Hill's five-week stint as the starter earlier this season.
Here's what Berry wrote earlier this week:
I was the only one to rank Shaun Hill, QB, Lions on Wednesday. Now that we know he has been taking the first-team reps in practice, I will rank him even higher on Friday.
Here are Shaun Hill's numbers while he was the starter in Weeks 2-6.
Attempts: 189 (fourth in NFL)
Pass yards: 1,221 (ninth)
Passing touchdowns: nine (tied for fourth)
As we know, Hill fractured his left forearm four weeks ago Sunday. He was taking those first-team reps this week with a cast on the arm and will wear some sort of splint contraption during Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.
Hill is obviously not 100 percent. So should we expect the Lions to veer from their previous approach to avoid putting him in too many passing situations? In other words, should we expect Hill to match his recent (fantasy) output? I'm not so sure about that. But what do I know?
Berry does provide another NFC North-related suggestion this week: Chicago Bears receiver Earl Bennett has been rolling up fantasy points in the past three games and could be on pace for more Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Berry:
- During that time frame, he is second on the team in targets and receptions among wide receivers.
- The Vikings have allowed an average of 25.0 points to opposing wide receivers the past four games.
