Matthews earned first-team All-Pro honors Monday from the Associated Press, and the Green Bay Packers linebacker is ready to take that final step into American superstardom over the next two weeks. Speaking to reporters Monday in Green Bay, Matthews said he and his hair are already receiving some promotional offers.
"Obviously, two of the best hairs in the game, so there's no doubt about that," Matthews said of his pairing with Polamalu. "I don't know. It will be fun. I'm sure there will be some good video and print on that. We'll see how it goes and where it goes."
Matthews joked he is "not so much a Head & Shoulders guy," which is probably the extent of the trash talking you'll hear from him. Both Matthews and Polamalu played at USC, and Matthews said hair is "something that we usually leave out of our conversations when talking with one another."
When will we see Matthews in an over-the-top hair commercial? Apparently sooner than you might realize.
"I'm working on something right now, so don't be surprised," he said. "But we'll see. Obviously you've got to perform on the field in order to get those type of endorsements, and hopefully I'm taking a step in the right direction."
Matthews has 3.5 sacks in the playoffs, 4.5 in the Packers' past four games and a total of 17 in 19 games this season. One of the fun parts of the Super Bowl is watching the characters we know locally generate national love. Matthews is probably first in line for the Packers.
