BBAO: 2015 target date for Packers deals
By Kevin Seifert
We're Black and Blue All Over:
Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has some details on the contract extensions the Green Bay Packers have signed with general manager Ted Thompson and are negotiating with coach Mike McCarthy.
Thompson's deal, announced last Friday, adds three additional years to his existing contract and takes him through the 2015 season.
McCarthy's deal, which has not yet been announced, will also be for three additional years and will average about $5 million per year. His current contract averages about $4 million.
In 2015, Thompson will be 61 and will have been on the job for 10 years. McGinn reports the Packers were "overjoyed" that he agreed to this latest extension. There was some concern that Thompson was ready to shed the stress of the general manager's job and return to his home state of Texas to finish his career as an area scout.
