Where do we rank Aaron Rodgers?

We might as well get this out of the way now.

ESPN.com is taking its offseason positional Power Rankings to another level next week.

It's quarterback time.

For NFC North types, that means we need to decide exactly where Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers fits into the league-wide mix. We discussed the issue extensively during the playoffs, a time when even the most hardened national observer eventually accepted Rodgers as an elite player. Now, I -- or maybe we -- have to decide how elite he is.

Remember, the Power Rankings are based on the present. Our mission is to identify the top 10 quarterbacks, in order, right now. There aren't supposed to be any lifetime achievement awards handed out here.

Conventional wisdom among the top three no doubt would go this way:
  1. Tom Brady
  2. Peyton Manning
  3. Drew Brees

I can tell you right now I'm not putting Rodgers ahead of Brady, who had one of his best-ever seasons in 2010. But I'm giving strong thought to ranking Rodgers No. 2. If you agree, give me some supporting arguments to help me fend off the rotten tomatoes next Tuesday. If you think Rodgers doesn't deserve that ranking, feel free to talk me off this ladder.

We've got about 24 hours before I need to submit my ballot. Time's a wastin'.
