Scramble'11: Percy Harvin as a No. 1 WR

By Kevin Seifert

Players around the NFL are reporting to team headquarters for workout sessions, classroom cramming and health updates. I won't post on every arrival, but I thought Percy Harvin's trip to the Minnesota Vikings' Winter Park facility was particularly noteworthy.

Harvin was the first Vikings player to arrive, according to the team. And in an interview with, Harvin said he decided to play nearly 10 pounds lighter this season. He's dropped his weight from 204 pounds to 195, mostly by focusing on yoga rather than strength work.

"It's going to be a lot of speed [this year]," Harvin said.

Let's not underestimate this development. Depending on how things develop over the next few days, Harvin could enter training camp as the Vikings' No. 1 receiver. Sidney Rice is an unrestricted free agent and certain to cultivate interest around the league. Meanwhile, Bernard Berrian's future with the team remains murky given his $6.258 million cap number.

It's true the Vikings have two strong pass-catching tight ends now in Visanthe Shiancoe and rookie Kyle Rudolph. But circumstances could push Harvin from the Vikings' jack-of-all-trades returner/No. 3 receiver/running back to the top option of their passing game.
