DETROIT -- Time to set the alarm clocks a little earlier for Minnesota. For the second consecutive week, the Vikings slumbered through a first half, took a deficit into the halftime locker room and then turned it around the third quarter.

I suppose that approach can get you past Cleveland and Detroit, as it did on each occasion. And it might work next week at home against San Francisco. But it’s not going to cut it once their division schedule heats up Oct. 5 against Green Bay.

Sunday, the Vikings’ defense helped turn a 10-7 halftime deficit into a 27-10 lead midway through the fourth quarter. The surge left Detroit with its 19th consecutive loss, tying it for second all-time on this dubious NFL list.

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre celebrated his league-record 271st consecutive start by outplaying Detroit rookie Matthew Stafford. Favre completed 23 of 27 passes for an efficient 155 yards and two touchdowns. I’ll be digging deeper into his numbers after the game, but here are the basics of what Favre has done since joining the Vikings: 37 completions in 48 attempts for 265 yards, including two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Can anyone say “game manager?”
