BBAO: Steelers are London opponent

By Kevin Seifert

We're Black and Blue All Over:

We discussed on Sunday the likelihood of the Minnesota Vikings playing a home game in London during the 2013 season, and on Tuesday evening the NFL made it official. The Vikings will "host" the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 29, 2013, at Wembley Stadium and then have a bye after that game.

The NFL will provide the Vikings with financial support for losing a home game, according to 1500ESPN.com. But it's a no-brainer decision for the Vikings, who eagerly pursued the opportunity to promote their brand internationally during the transition time between the revenue-challenged Metrodome -- and the more deeply-challenged TCF Bank Stadium -- and their new stadium, which will open in 2016.

Suffice it to say, the Vikings will have ample opportunity to recoup any lost revenue and then some. And those who are upset the Vikings will play seven regular-season games in Minnesota rather than eight next season should be aware that none of the team's three home games have sold out in 2012.
