NFC North Week 13 Quarterback Report
By Kevin Seifert
Three of our NFC North quarterbacks played really nice games Sunday. The fourth was, uh, not really nice. So let's take a closer look with the help of Jacob Nitzberg of ESPN's Stats & Information.
Passer rating: 119.6
Action plays: 36
Comment: Cutler played one of his best games of the season in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He did not commit a turnover, took only one sack and converted two third downs by scrambling. In all, three of his four scrambles resulted in first downs. The Seahawks' offense didn't give Cutler many opportunities for possession in the fourth quarter and, obviously, overtime. But his last-gasp heave to receiver Brandon Marshall in regulation enhanced his 2012 reputation as a clutch player.
Passer rating: 98.0
Action plays: 51
Comment: Although he didn't put up flashy yardage numbers, Rodgers had one of his most efficient and consistent games of the season. He was essentially perfect in the fourth quarter to extend the Packers' lead, completing all five passes, including three to convert third downs. He also converted a fourth third down by scrambling. Overall, he completed nine of 12 passes in the game on third down, converting eight of those opportunities. That's pretty good execution in a divisional slugfest.
Passer rating: 84.8
Action plays: 51
Comment: Stafford completed four of his seven downfield attempts that traveled at least 15 yards in the air, including both touchdowns, for a total of 133 yards. He didn't take a sack and had one turnover. But like the rest of his team, Stafford couldn't finish strong. He completed only one of six attempts in the fourth quarter for eight yards.
Passer rating: 41.9
Action plays: 32
Comment: Ponder's two interceptions were costly both from a conventional and analytics standpoint. Based on ESPN's win probability model, they were two of the three biggest negative swing plays of the game. Ponder had only 36 yards passing until late in the fourth quarter and didn't complete any of the six passes he threw that traveled more than 15 yards in the air.
