Black and Blue all over: Bears and Chambers

There was some buzz among Chicago fans Tuesday about the possibility of picking up receiver Chris Chambers, whom San Diego unexpectedly waived Monday. And as ESPN Chicago’s Jeff Dickerson notes, former NFL player Rodney Harrison endorsed the potential move during an appearance on ESPN 1000.

But Chambers ended up going to Kansas City on a waiver claim. As my AFC West colleague Bill Williamson points out, neither the Bears nor any other team placed a claim on him.

That shouldn’t be surprising. The Bears really have made no serious attempts -- that we’re aware of -- to augment their young group of receivers since the starting of training camp. The combined performances of Devin Hester, Earl Bennett and Johnny Knox have been a pleasant surprise, and there’s no point in disturbing that chemistry in midseason.
