Packers get good news on Datone Jones

By Rob Demovsky

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The way the injuries have been piling up for the Green Bay Packers, there was reason to fear the worst when first-round draft pick Datone Jones left the preseason opener on Friday after only one snap.

But the Packers got some good news about the defensive end. Though he was not able to participate when the team returned to practice on Monday, Jones’ left ankle injury isn’t expected to be a long-term issue.

“He’ll miss a couple of days this week,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after practice.

McCarthy said he wasn’t sure whether Jones will be available for Saturday’s preseason game at St. Louis.

Jones’ injury came a week after the Packers lost starting left tackle Bryan Bulaga to a season-ending knee injury.

A total of 16 players missed practice on Tuesday, but the Packers got back a couple of key players -- receiver Randall Cobb, who missed the preseason opener because of a biceps injury; and running back DuJuan Harris, who was activated off the physically unable to perform list after missing the first two weeks of training camp because of a knee injury.
