Previewing Preseason Week 2: Vikings
By Kevin Seifert
In which we look ahead to the Vikings' second preseason game:
Opponent: Buffalo Bills
Location: Ralph Wilson Stadium
Time: 7 p.m. ET
Personnel notes: Starters are expected to play at least one quarter, if not more, after the first-team offense saw only two snaps in last week's preseason opener. ... Coach Leslie Frazier has said that tailback Adrian Peterson will get some playing time this summer, but he was inactive last week and almost certainly won't play in the preseason finale. That means we'll see him either Friday night or the Aug. 25 game against the San Francisco 49ers. That contest is on grass at Candlestick Park, which might be a better choice for Peterson. ... Rookie cornerback Xavier Rhodes and veteran linebacker Desmond Bishop seem likely to make their preseason debuts. Bishop hasn't played in a game in more than a year and seems to be fighting for a roster spot and perhaps his career.
Of interest: All eyes will be on quarterback Christian Ponder, who threw one completion and one interception in his two-play stint last week. Tossing at least a few preseason passes to new receivers Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson seems pretty important as does the settling of anxiety -- be it external or internal -- about Ponder's capacity for improving off last season's uneven performance. We saw plenty of Matt Cassel last week against the Houston Texans. The next two weeks should be about Ponder.
