Chris Houston: Hamstring is 'coming along'

By Michael Rothstein

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions cornerback Chris Houston returned to practice Friday and after he was done, seemed to feel confident about his ailing hamstring.

“The rest that I have got has been good,” Houston said. “We’re just taking it day-by-day. Felt better today but we just got to go day by day and see how it feels.”

Houston, who missed practice Wednesday and Thursday after leaving Detroit’s 40-32 win over Chicago in the second half with the hamstring injury, said it felt better being able to move on it Friday during practice.

Houston is third on the Lions with 20 tackles and leads the team with six passes defended. He also has an interception.

He said he’ll test the hamstring out again Sunday before Detroit faces Green Bay.

“Yeah, I tested it out today,” Houston said. “It’s coming along. It’s coming along.”

Earlier this week, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was very complimentary of Houston, saying he’s improved every year and called him a “high effort guy.”

When Houston was told this Friday, he laughed.

“Wow,” he said. “I made it. Nah, that’s a big compliment. He’s one of those quarterbacks where he’s still going to try you.

“I look on film. He’s going to other cornerbacks where he may know where they are on the field, so I know he’s going to try me. That maybe was just trying to soften me up a little bit.”
