Power Rankings: No. 30 Minnesota Vikings
By Ben Goessling
A weekly examination of the Vikings' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 17 | Last Week: 29 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The Vikings dropped yet another spot after a 23-7 loss to the New York Giants on "Monday Night Football," and even though they can fall only two more spots in the rankings, their schedule over the next few weeks doesn't offer much chance of a reprieve from a 1-5 start. The Vikings return home for a Sunday night matchup with the NFC North-leading Green Bay Packers, before they head to Dallas to face the NFC East-leading Cowboys. Then, after a Thursday night game against the Washington Redskins, the Vikings head to Seattle for a game with the Seahawks -- the team with the best record in the NFC.
Things could get rather ugly in Minnesota, and the obvious question is how much losing the Vikings' ownership will endure before they demand staff changes. The team is at a sensitive point right now, with a new stadium set to open in less than three years. No team wants to move into a new stadium with low morale, so if the Vikings don't think Leslie Frazier will be able to turn things around, they might not want to waste time trying to find their next coach. But it remains to be seen where the Vikings will go with Frazier, and for that matter, what they'll do with general manager Rick Spielman, who picked Christian Ponder over Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick in 2011 and helped precipitate the team's current quarterback mess. For a player who's been with the team for just two weeks, Josh Freeman might have considerable ability to tip the Vikings' season -- and a few job statuses -- in one direction or the other.
