Starter Pack: Big week for Cobb, Rodgers

By Rob Demovsky

A roundup of what's happening on the Green Bay Packers beat.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- When receiver Randall Cobb was seen running routes and catching passes from backup quarterback Scott Tolzien at AT&T Stadium on Sunday before the Packers' game against the Dallas Cowboys, that was the strongest evidence yet that he could be close to a return.

It was the first time he had been seen working out in public since he fractured his tibia on Oct. 13 and was subsequently placed on the temporary injured reserve list.

Cobb was eligible to return against the Cowboys but was not cleared to return. That could come this week.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Cobb worked out again Monday and received positive reviews.

“I was told [the workout] was very good,” McCarthy said. “He's moving. Everything looks good. We'll see how he is [Tuesday]. Wednesday is really kind of the day that we set the plan for all the players.”

Even if Cobb returns to practice on Wednesday, it's not a given he would be activated for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cobb is not currently on the 53-man roster. A spot would have to be cleared for him to return.
