Lest our readers start getting the idea this is an NFC North blog instead of a Vikings blog, let us bring you a nugget on Minnesota receiver Bernard Berrian.
(Note: The literary tool known as "sarcasm" was employed in the previous sentence. This is, in fact, an NFC North blog. The Vikings are in first place and the leading contender the division's guaranteed playoff spot, hence their skewed post total of late. Stay with me. It'll even out).
Anyway, according to Elias Sports Bureau, Berrian became only the third player in NFL history to score on a pass and a punt return in the first quarter of a game. Bet you didn't know that.
Berrian's punt return went for 82 yards and his 41-yard touchdown pass made it 14-0 in the Vikings' eventual 35-14 victory over Arizona.
The other two players, you ask? According to Elias:
Pete Philos accomplished for the Eagles in 1947.
J.T. Smith did it for the Chiefs in 1980.
