NFC North: Jordan Woy

We're Black and Blue All Over:

Officially, the Green Bay Packers have been tight-lipped about the return of veteran receiver Donald Driver. But neither Driver nor his agent, Jordan Woy, have expressed anything close to the same reticence. And late Tuesday night, it appeared Driver and the Packers had agreed to terms on a restructured contract that would at least clear the way for Driver to report to training camp and win a roster spot.

Driver tweeted: "Tweeps: when I said I will be a Packer for life. It is now true. Packer for life." Later, Woy emailed WTMJ-Ch. 4's Lance Allan: "We have agreed to terms with the Packers but need to review it tomorrow to finalize." Jason Wilde of also confirmed the move via an NFL source.

All along, we've noted the possibility that the Packers simply wanted to avoid a public commitment to Driver until they could complete the new contract. That's standard negotiating procedure.

Many of you will no doubt be upset that Driver could take the roster spot of a young, promising receiver. But if the Packers' young, promising receivers are as young and promising as everyone says they are, the Packers will find a way to keep them on their roster. It doesn't have to be an either-or proposition.

Continuing around the NFC North:
  • Packers guard T.J. Lang knows he will need to wait in line for a contract extension, writes Wilde for
  • New Packers center Jeff Saturday encouraged Packers offensive linemen to exchange their phone numbers for the first time in years, Lang told Wilde.
  • The Minnesota Vikings opened organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday but receiver Percy Harvin is sidelined because of shoulder surgery, according to Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
  • Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave on receiver Jerome Simpson, via Dan Wiederer of the Star Tribune: "He’s just what the doctor ordered for the Viking offense."
  • It's time that some Detroit Lions players start getting the point, writes John Niyo of the Detroit News.
  • Lions receiver Titus Young apologized to his teammates for an incident involving safety Louis Delmas, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
  • Anwar S. Richardson of wonders if Lions safety Amari Spievey isn't practicing in OTAs because he hasn't been cleared from a January concussion yet.
  • Chicago Bears offensive lineman Gabe Carimi tweeted that he participated in Tuesday's OTA, notes Jeff Dickerson of Carimi was sidelined last week as he recovers from knee surgery.
  • Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune on the Matt Forte knee fracas: "I don't think Forte's knee issues are a reason not to sign him to a long-term contract. But I do think knee issues are part of the big picture that helps define his value."
I won't try to break down the reasons why Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver won the prestigious "Mirror Ball" trophy Tuesday night as the champion of the reality show "Dancing with the Stars." No point in that.

What I will say is that watching the last few weeks of the show was a good reminder about the value of stepping out of your comfort zone. Driver is a great athlete and competitor, and perhaps he was already a good dancer before this show. But his emotional reaction to winning was an indication of how hard he needed to work to secure this accomplishment, and how much satisfaction he felt upon achieving it.

(Having Packers fans supporting you in the viewer voting doesn't hurt, either.)

Driver will have a few whirlwind days of publicity but could re-join the Packers for offseason workouts as early as next week. His agent, Jordan Woy, tweeted: "Congrats to Donald Driver winning DWTS!! Now it is time to get ready for another season with the Packers!"
