Reviewing the film of NFC South chat

October, 8, 2010
As always, we covered tons of ground in Friday’s NFC South chat. Here’s one highlight per team.

Caleb (Iowa): Hey Pat, great job with the blog and I appreciate the credit you have given to Josh Freeman throughout the year. My question to you is why aren't the Bucs diversifying the offense? I know the offensive line isn't great, but if you watch a Bucs game, its very very obvious when we are running the ball and when we are passing. Is the OC doing this intentionally to make it easier for Freeman or is our offensive line that bad? Thanks again.

Pat Yasinskas: That offense is a work in progress, still very young. They have to make things pretty basic and I'm not really talking for Freeman. Just put up column on rookie wide receivers and how teams have to scale things back for them. It should be up on blog now.

John (St. Louis): Hey Pat, wasn't there a rumor last season that Bill Cowher was putting together a coaching staff, and at the same time that rumor was circulating the Panthers were telling John Fox that he could opt out of his contract this season if he chose too. Then when John Fox decided to say, the rumors about Cowher stopped. Am I remembering this correctly and what is your take on the rumor?

Pat Yasinskas: I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think Cowher has ever been on Carolina's radar. And I also don't think Carolina has ever been on Cowher's radar. If he coaches again, I say it'll be a big market. Don't think he wants to really come in and build a team from scratch.

richard (atlanta,ga): I have been hearing alot of people saying that the falcons have been getting lucky the last two weeks, isn't it a sign of a good team to win even when you not playing your A game?

Pat Yasinskas: Yep and sometimes you create your own luck. Also, say what you want about the New Orleans game and the missed field goal, but the Falcons played a big-time game in a very tough environment. That showed me a lot about them.

gilbert (new orleans): Follow up to the previous question. What is Sharper's role when he comes back in a couple of weeks. They aren't going to demote Malcolm Jenkins are they?

Pat Yasinskas: No, I think Jenkins stays as the starter. Sharper is nice insurance in case there are more injuries in the secondary.

Thanks to all who participated in the chat. For those who couldn’t make it, here’s the complete transcript.
