Time to take a tour of some news and notes across the NFC South.

We all knew Atlanta’s offense would be pretty good. But, as the Falcons are being mentioned as perhaps the best team in the NFC, I think it’s time to spread the credit around a bit. Phil Foley has a good story on how Atlanta’s defense is rising up. The defense is the real key in Atlanta. Mike Smith finally has the personnel to truly play his kind of defense and it’s showing. If this continues, the Falcons could go a long way.

Speaking of Atlanta’s defense, Kroy Biermann talks about his spectacular tip and interception in this radio interview.

And speaking of Biermann, he is also getting headlines in Montana. It’s his home state and the Falcons just might become "Montana’s Team."

Scott Reynolds reports the Bucs already are declaring that Sunday’s game will be blacked out in the Tampa Bay area. The Bucs are winning, the Super Bowl champion Saints are coming to town and this one doesn’t even have a prayer of selling out? I guess you can blame the economy and maybe some people thinking baseball’s Rays might be playing beyond Tuesday.

John Fox wasn’t ready to declare who will be Carolina’s starting quarterback after the bye. I can’t say I blame him. I don’t know if Jimmy Clausen or Matt Moore is the right call right now. Clausen might have the brighter NFL future, but the Panthers are so weak everywhere else on offense that they might be better of protecting him and keeping him on the sideline for now.
