Mike Triplett reports from the owners' meetings that New Orleans coach Sean Payton said the Saints plan to re-sign reserve quarterback Joey Harrington.

Make all the jokes you want about Harrington's flop in Detroit, but I think this would be an excellent move for the Saints. Sure, they're more than set with Drew Brees as the starter.

But what if something happens to Brees? Mark Brunell is a nice veteran backup. He can get you through a game or two, but he's going to be 39 shortly after the season starts. If Brees gets hurt and is out for an extended period of time, Harrington's a better option.

I'm not saying Harrington can be anything like Brees. But I think he's matured from the Detroit days and still has some upside. More than anything, with New Orleans' offensive weapons, it would be hard for any quarterback to look bad in that system.
