We’ve talked quite a bit about the Saints and their struggles already. We’re going to do it again and we’re going to start at the very top.
That’s quarterback Drew Brees, the guy who carried the Saints to the Super Bowl championship last season. Brees was pretty close to perfect last year and, even in 2008, he wasn’t far from perfect.
But Brees has not been the same guy this season and the trend is getting worse. In New Orleans’ first four games, Brees wasn’t exactly lighting it up like last year, but he was getting the job done as the Saints started 3-1. But there’s been a noticeable slip in Brees’ performance the last three games, in which the Saints are 1-2.
Let’s take a look at Brees’ first four games, with data courtesy of ESPN Stats & Information. He had seven touchdown passes and two interceptions with a 73.8 completion percentage.
Now, let’s look at the last three games. Brees has thrown seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. In that span, his completion percentage has been 64.6.
