The Bucs have just signed tight end Kellen Winslow to a new six-year contract. ESPN's John Clayton reports it's worth $36.1 million and could reach $42 million if certain incentives are met.
It's not a total surprise because there was talk of a new contract for Winslow when he was first traded from the Browns to the Bucs. But things were quiet on that front -- until now.
It makes a lot of sense for the Bucs to get Winslow locked up. They invested a lot in him by trading away a couple of draft picks, including this year's second-round choice. Winslow's previous contract only ran through 2010 and it wouldn't have looked very good if the Bucs only got two seasons out of a player they gave up a lot to get.
