We usually stick to the NFC South here, but we're going to push the boundaries a bit today. That's because something happened that cuts across the entire league and into the baseball world.

Harry Kalas died Monday afternoon and that makes it a sad day for sports fans everywhere. Kalas was the long-time voice for NFL Films. More importantly, he was the voice of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Growing up in northeastern Pennsylvania, Kalas was the first sports voice I really heard. I can remember listening to Kalas, Richie Ashburn and Andy Musser on radio and television. Kalas also was the first broadcaster I ever met when he and slugger Greg Luzinski appeared at a Phillies caravan event in Scranton in the 1970s.

I've met lots of broadcasters since then, but the sound of Kalas' voice remained nostalgic. It always will. The man was the voice of baseball -- and football -- to generations. That voice is going to be remembered for more generations.
