Today is one of those days where I don't miss being a newspaper beat reporter focusing on one team. Yep, today's the annual day where the Panthers make (and I want to emphasize that the media relations department truly has to twist his arm) general manager Marty Hurney available to talk about the draft. Today is also the day, where Hurney annually does a very nice job of saying nothing.
He kept the tradition alive today, revealing that Julius Peppers is still a franchise player, there's nothing new on Jake Delhomme's contract situation and the Panthers still will stack their draft board the way the always do.
Hurney's as gregarious and nice a guy as you'll ever meet -- if he's talking publicly about anything besides Panthers' business. When the subject is anything about the draft or contract issues, that's when the former sports writer becomes the second-worst quote in the organization after coach John Fox.
Then again, that's part of their job.
