Panthers release injured DT Scott

The Carolina Panthers thought they might be able to revive the career of defensive tackle Ian Scott when they signed him in the offseason. It didn't work out that way.

The Panthers released Scott with an injury settlement Wednesday. A knee injury had kept him out of most of the preseason. Scott hasn't played in an NFL game since 2006 when he was with Chicago.

The move shouldn't have much of an impact on Carolina's defensive line because Scott was expected to be the fourth tackle, at best. His injury has given Gary Gibson lots of snaps and the Panthers like what they've seen. Gibson likely will end up as the fourth end behind Damione Lewis, Ma'ake Kemoeatu and Darwin Walker.
