Sounds like things got a little heated as the Bucs worked out Wednesday. Cornerback Torrie Cox reportedly suffered a facial laceration when fellow cornerback Aqib Talib swung his helmet.

The blow wasn't intended for Cox, as Talib was apparently in an altercation with offensive tackle Donald Penn at the time. Early reports say Cox's injury is not serious and Penn tried to downplay the spat with Talib.

But this situation bears watching because the Bucs are looking into it. The team just sent out a statement from general manager Mark Dominik.

"We are discussing the specifics of this situation and will provide an update as we proceed,'' Dominik said.

It's never good when teammates fight, but it does happen often on the practice field. It's another story when one teammate injures another and Dominik's statement makes it sound as if Talib could end up facing some sort of disciplinary action.

Carolina receiver Steve Smith got a two-game suspension last year for punching cornerback Ken Lucas, who was kneeling on the sideline during training camp. Smith had two previous incidents in which he scuffled with teammates. He drew a one-game suspension for a film-room fight with practice-squad player Anthony Bright. He also had an altercation with another player in a dormitory at training camp early in his career.

Talib's incident wasn't his first along these lines. He fought with a teammate at last year's rookie symposium.
