It’s a very quiet weekend in the NFC South. As we get ready to watch the conference championship games, let’s take a quick look through the NFC South headlines.

Atlanta fullback Ovie Mughelli admits he’s still going through denial about the playoff loss to Green Bay.

New Orleans coach Sean Payton gives his thoughts on the NFC Championship Game between Green Bay and Chicago. He also says he wouldn’t be surprised if the game goes to overtime and we see the league’s new playoff overtime rules for the first time.

Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith met with new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski on Friday. We don’t know the results of the meeting, but it’s safe to say this is at least an attempt by the team and the player to keep Smith in Carolina. There’s been speculation the veteran receiver might want to go to a team with a better quarterback situation. But there has been no indication that Smith has asked out.

The Buccaneers have hired Pat Morris as their offensive line coach. He’s got some history with offensive coordinator Greg Olson. He’ll take over an offensive line that faces potential uncertainty. Guard Davin Joseph could be a free agent and center Jeff Faine has had injury problems. But Morris will have left tackle Donald Penn to build around.
