Bucs QB Freeman airs one out

TAMPA, Fla. -- I was standing on the sideline with Bucs general manager Mark Dominik this morning doing an interview for a future story. Dominik was watching practice as he spoke and he suddenly stopped in mid-sentence.

"Hey, look at that," Dominik said.

I saw it, too, and it's a good omen for all those Bucs fans who are wondering how rookie quarterback Josh Freeman is coming along. What Dominik and anyone else at practice had just seen was a flash of how spectacular Freeman can be.

Freeman had just thrown a deep post and connected with receiver Pat Carter. But this was more than just a deep post. Freeman hit Carter in perfect stride with a pass that traveled about 60 yards in the air.

"You saw a big-time throw by the young man," coach Raheem Morris said after practice. "That's what we knew he could do. That's what you've got to ask him to do when you get a guy like that. He just had to make a good decision and he made a great decision. It was a big-time throw, a big-time completion and it fired us up."
