Whenever there is labor peace or the lockout ends, perhaps the biggest story in the NFC South will be the future of New Orleans running back Reggie Bush.
That became murky Thursday night when the Saints drafted running back Mark Ingram. Bush sent out a farewell to New Orleans on his Twitter account. Soon after that, I wrote this post, saying Bush might be overreacting and the Saints may find a way to keep him, Ingram, Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory in the same backfield.
Cole reports that Bush was asked several times prior to the start of the lockout to take a pay cut and, so far, he’s declined. That’s a different story than Payton was telling back at the NFL owners meeting in March when he made it sound like the Saints and Bush had some pre-lockout talks that likely would result in a contract extension.
This is a situation to keep a close eye on as soon as teams are allowed to make transactions.
