The National Football League has implemented some new rules this year that limit how often and how long teams can practice during training camp. That’s going to make Wednesday a bit of a unique day around the NFC South.
The Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints are each scheduled to have the day off. We’re talking about players only and I’m sure the coaching staffs and front offices still will be working, so we could have some transactions.
The Carolina Panthers took a slightly different approach to giving their players a day off. They practiced Tuesday morning and let the players take the rest of the day off. Many went home to Charlotte. But they’ll be expected back in Spartanburg, S.C., exactly 24 hours after they left. They’ll arrive back at camp later this afternoon and are scheduled for an evening walkthrough. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had Tuesday off, are the only NFC South team having a regular day today.
But the quiet day doesn’t mean the NFC South Blog gets a day off. I’m about to begin the drive to Flowery Branch, Ga., where I’ll be visiting with the Falcons on Thursday and Friday. Once I get settled into Flowery Branch this afternoon, I’ll check in with a few items and update you on the events of the day. I’ll also spend tonight writing Carolina’s Camp Confidential profile, which is scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon.
One quick programming note -- there will be no NFC South chat this Friday. That’s because I’ll be on the practice field with the Falcons. We’ll resume the chat next Friday.
As I travel, keep an eye on the headlines section on our main NFL page for any breaking news from around the NFC South.
