Tampa Bay kicker (at least for the moment) Matt Bryant had a very interesting interview Thursday morning with Fisher and Boy on 97X-WSUN in Tampa.

Bryant, who has been sidelined by injury through most of the preseason, appears to be very much on the hot seat. The Bucs brought in Mike Nugent to challenge Bryant in the offseason. They also gave Nugent a $2.4 million contract, which is about double what Bryant is scheduled to make.

All indications out of the Bucs are that Bryant is probably on the way out and it sure sounded like Bryant agrees with that assessment.

When asked if he feels he can still trust general manager Mark Dominik and coach Raheem Morris, Bryant started his answer with a laugh before saying, "I’ve got to do what’s best for me and move on."

Bryant didn’t have flattering words for Nugent, who has made four of seven field-goal attempts in the preseason and implied the Bucs could end up going with a kicker that’s not on their current roster.

"It’s not necessarily going to be Nugent," Bryant said. "You’ve seen the preseason."

Bryant also wondered aloud if the Bucs had given Nugent some kind of assurance that this was the best situation when he was a free agent. Bryant also said Nugent might have come to that conclusion on his own.

"If he singled me out, then he’s out of his damn mind," Bryant said.

Stay tuned on this one. The Bucs -- and all other NFL teams -- have to have their rosters down to 53 players by Saturday afternoon.
