Part of the beauty of Sean Payton’s offense is that a pass play is far from over once the ball is caught.

Almost half of the New Orleans Saints’ passing yards have come after the catch. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Saints rank fifth in the NFL with 485 yards after the catch. That’s 45.8 percent of their total passing yards. The most productive New Orleans player after the catch has been running back Darren Sproles. He ranks No. 6 in the league with 177 yards on 21 receptions. He’s averaging 8.4 yards after the catch.

New Orleans receiver Devery Henderson has 107 yards after the catch, which puts him at No. 19 in the league. Henderson is averaging 8.9 yards after the catch.

The Carolina Panthers are the only NFC South team that’s even close to the Saints in this category. The Panthers are No. 8 in the league with 431 yards after the catch and 42.6 percent of their passing yards have come after the catch. That’s largely because receiver Steve Smith is No. 13 in the league with 129 yards after the catch.

The Falcons and Buccaneers aren’t lighting it up in this category. Atlanta ranks No. 15 with 373 yards after the catch and Tampa Bay is No. 21 with 310 yards.
