It took one of the most flawless performances you’ll ever see to end the NFC South’s streak of being shut out for NFC Player of the Week awards.

The NFL just announced that New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees has been named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7. Brees is the first NFC South player to win a weekly award since Tampa Bay cornerback Ronde Barber got the defensive honor in Week 3.

Brees is the first NFC South player this year to earn the offensive award. In fact, the only division player to win a weekly award besides Brees and Barber was New Orleans safety Roman Harper in Week 2.

But this is the 13th weekly honor of Brees’ career and the 11th since he joined the Saints in 2006. He earned it by completing 31 of 35 passes (88.6 percent) for 325 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday’s 62-7 win against Indianapolis.
