Derrick Brooks’ next career stop will be television.
|
Brooks is joining ESPN2’s First Take as an analyst and is scheduled to work mostly on Thursdays and Fridays.
"While I still feel like I can play in the NFL, I'm excited to be a part of ESPN's NFL coverage where I have a lot of former teammates,’’ Brooks said. “I look forward to the exposure this opportunity will bring as a share my knowledge and perspective of the game on First Take."
Can't completely say this is the end of football for Brooks, but it sure looks that way. Despite nibbles from New Orleans, Oakland and Chicago, nobody stepped forward to put him back on the field.
The Bucs and Brooks didn’t handle things all that well when Tampa Bay released the best player in franchise history back in February. Let’s hope both sides can do a better job of putting together some sort of retirement tribute for Brooks.
