Where they rank on offense, defense

1/2/2012

The final NFL rankings for offense and defense are out and the NFC South has a league best in one category and one of the league’s worst in another.

The best is the New Orleans offense, which ranked No. 1 in the league. The Saints were No. 1 in passing offense and No. 6 in rushing. On defense, the Saints didn’t grade out nearly as well. They were No. 24 in total defense (No. 12 against the run and No. 30 against the pass).

It’s no big surprise that the Tampa Bay defense ranked No. 30 overall. The Bucs were No. 32 against the run and No. 21 against the pass. Tampa Bay’s offense was only slightly better. The Bucs ranked No. 21 in overall offense (No. 30 in rushing and No. 16 in passing).

The Atlanta Falcons had the best balance in the division. The Falcons were No. 10 in overall offense (17th in rushing and eighth in passing. Defensively, the Falcons were No. 12 overall (No. 6 against the run and No. 20 against the pass).

The Carolina Panthers were No. 7 in overall offense (No. 3 in rushing and No. 13 in passing). The Panthers finished No. 28 in total defense (No. 25 against the run and No. 24 against the pass).
