Gray, 48, will interview with the Buccaneers on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s John Clayton.
Gray played for the Buccaneers in 1993 after previously playing for the Los Angeles Rams and Houston Oilers. He currently is the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. Gray re-joined the Titans this past season after starting his NFL coaching career with them as defensive backs coach in 1999.
Gray followed Tennessee defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to Buffalo when Williams became the head coach there in 2001. Gray was Buffalo’s defensive coordinator from 2001 through 20005. Gray joined the Washington Redskins as defensive backs coach in 2006 and stayed there through 2009.
Gray was defensive backs coach for Seattle in 2010 before getting the coordinator’s job in Tennessee.
The Bucs also are expected to interview former Green Bay coach Mike Sherman sometime this week. The Bucs said they don’t have a specific type of coach in mind, but early indications are they’re looking for a coach who has either been a head coach previously or has extensive experience as a coordinator.
