The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have taken another step toward filling out their coaching staff.

The team reportedly has hired Earnest Byner as its running backs coach. After starting off by hiring mostly his former assistants from Rutgers, new coach Greg Schiano has shifted gears to get coaches with NFL experience to fill out his staff.

Byner previously has coached running backs with the Jaguars, Titans and Redskins and also worked for a bit in the Ravens’ front office.

Byner also had a lengthy playing career in the NFL. He played 14 seasons, split among the Browns, Ravens and Redskins. He rushed for 8,261 yards and 56 touchdowns. He also finished his career with 13,442 all-purpose yards and 72 touchdowns.
