Lots of ground to cover as we talk about the whole situation involving the NFL’s punishment of the New Orleans Saints for their bounty program. Let’s take a quick look at some of what’s being said and written on this topic elsewhere.

Jeff Duncan summed it up pretty well when he wrote that Saints’ fans shouldn’t blame NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and should blame Sean Payton, Gregg Williams, Mickey Loomis and Joe Vitt. He’s right. It was the action -- or inaction -- of those four that fueled all this.

There are a lot of radio play-by-play guys around the league that will never criticize the team they cover. Saints’ radio voice Jim Henderson isn’t one of them. He always shoots straight and he did it again when he said “the pride and arrogance that apparently emanated from the head coach through the ranks is now showing to be very costly."

Payton reportedly is “beside himself’’ about the one-year suspension. He apparently was expecting to be suspended for only four games.

Here’s a look at some reaction from current and former Saints.

NFC West colleague Mike Sando has some thoughts on what Williams’ indefinite suspension means for the Rams. Williams left the Saints for St. Louis after last season.

Sando also has a list of the top five scandals in NFL history. The first two on the list involve the NFC South.
