It may be hard to find an unsung member of the New Orleans Saints right now because, at 4-0, they’re drawing plenty of attention. But it’s not impossible to find a guy who quietly is having a very nice year.
That’s wide receiver Devery Henderson, who sometimes gets lost in the shadow of receiver Marques Colston and tight end Jeremy Shockey. Henderson’s numbers aren’t huge. He has 14 catches for 235 yards and one touchdown.
But you need to put Henderson’s numbers into perspective to fully appreciate them. In an offense that spreads the ball around better than any other, Henderson is making the most out of every opportunity he gets.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Henderson is averaging 7.29 yards after the catch. That ranks fourth in the league. Henderson also averages 10.7 yards per time he’s been targeted and that ranks fifth in the league.
The most impressive stat of all might be that Henderson has only one drop. He’s come a long way in that area after having major problems with drops early in his career.
