The Bucs announced this afternoon that they’ve activated safety Tanard Jackson to the 53-man roster. To make room for him, they released defensive end Maurice Evans.
Jackson was suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. The Bucs had an exemption for him and could have waited another week to activate Jackson.
But Tampa Bay’s struggling secondary needs its best defensive back right away. Jackson will join Sabby Piscitelli as the starting safeties and veteran Will Allen will return to a backup role when the Bucs play Philadelphia on Sunday.
