It’s officially a sweep for the NFC South in the NFC’s player of the week awards.
New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who threw for four touchdowns in a huge win against the Giants, has been named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced.
It’s the first time this season the NFC South has swept the awards. Brees joins Tampa Bay’s Sammie Stroughter, who won the special teams award, and Atlanta’s Thomas DeCoud, who won it for defense.
This is the 11th time in his career Brees has won the award and the ninth time he’s done it since joining the Saints -- that’s already a franchise record for player of the week awards.
New Orleans’ Marques Colston, Carolina’s DeAngelo Williams and Carolina’s Julius Peppers also were nominees this week.
