The latest ESPN.com Power Rankings are out and there are no surprises when it comes to where the NFC South teams stand.
The Atlanta Falcons remained in the No. 2 spot behind the Houston Texans. Although most of the panelists had the Falcons at No. 2, Mike Sando and Dan Graziano had them at No. 3. In fact, Sando had the San Francisco 49ers at No. 1. Yes, Sando covers the NFC West, but I don’t think his ballot suggests he’s a homer. After watching San Francisco play in recent weeks, I think you could make a pretty strong argument that the 49ers are better than the Falcons and Texans right now.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cracked the top 10 last week, but tumbled a bit after a one-point loss to Atlanta on Sunday. The Bucs now are No. 12, which sounds about right since they currently are right on the fringe of a playoff spot.
The New Orleans Saints also fell two spots. They dropped to No. 15 after a loss to San Francisco. The only NFC South team to rise this week was the Carolina Panthers. They climbed one spot from No. 29 to No. 28.
