New Orleans’ Drew Brees continues to be the NFL’s best quarterback out of the shotgun formation and it isn’t even close.

Our fine researchers at ESPN’s Stats & Information chart every play of every game and they have Brees completing 46 of 67 passes for 675 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. Brees has a 126.2 passer rating out of the shotgun and that puts him way ahead of the pack. Eli Manning is second with a 114.7 rating. Brees also leads the league in yards per attempt (10.1) out of the shotgun.

Atlanta’s Matt Ryan is the only other NFC South quarterback having any sort of success out of the shotgun. He has a 94.2 rating and has completed 43 of 67 passes for 522 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Carolina’s Jake Delhomme has an 83.2 rating in the shotgun, completing 28 of 42 passes for 292 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tampa Bay’s Josh Johnson ranks 41st out of the league’s 42 quarterbacks who have passed out of the shotgun with a 46.6 rating. Johnson has completed 31 of 65 passes for 314 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
