The Bucs announced Saturday evening that Wright has been activated to the 53-man roster and cornerback LeQuan Lewis has been released.
Wright re-joined the team Monday after serving a four-game suspension and I don’t think the Bucs would have taken him off the exempt list if they don’t plan on using him against the Falcons.
The Bucs, who have a chance to break the NFL record for passing yards allowed in a season, need all the help they can get at cornerback. Coach Greg Schiano had been quiet about his plans for Wright in recent days.
There has been a lot of speculation about Wright's future with the Bucs since his suspension. One school of thought is that the Bucs will release him after the season because his $7.75 million base salary for 2013 no longer is guaranteed (due to the suspension). I wouldn't read much either way into the decision to activate Wright.
I think the Bucs are just looking to finish the season as well as possible. After the season, they'll sit down and decide Wright's future.
Apparently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan to play cornerback Eric Wright in Sunday’s season finale at Atlanta. The Bucs announced Saturday evening that Wright has been activated to the 53-man roster and cornerback LeQuan Lewis has been released.
