Cornerback Dunta Robinson suffered a head injury early in the game. Smith stopped short of saying Robinson suffered a concussion. But Smith said Robinson should be fine because the Falcons have two weeks before they play their first playoff game.
Defensive end John Abraham suffered an ankle injury in the second half and was carted off the field. But Smith said early indications are that Abraham’s injury is minor.
The Falcons need both fully healthy for their first playoff game. If either of them misses time, Smith is going to have to endure a lot of second guessing about his decision to play his starters throughout a game that could not help the Falcons’ postseason status. Atlanta already had clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.
I wouldn’t have had a big problem if Smith gave his starters a few series or maybe even played them the entire first half. But there was absolutely no reason that Abraham, 34, should have been on the field in the fourth quarter of a meaningless game.
