NEW ORLEANS -- I remember thinking several times Monday night that the Falcons were making a mistake by not running on second down. But I didn’t realize how dramatically true that was until I saw this item from ESPN Stats & Information.
Running back Michael Turner was hot for one of the few times this season, but the Falcons went away from him on second down, which was his most effective down, all too often.
Here’s a breakdown of what Turner did on second downs and what quarterback Matt Ryan did when the Falcons passed on second down. Ryan threw all three of his interceptions on second downs.
