METAIRIE, La. -- Before I head out to the practice field to watch the New Orleans Saints in minicamp, let’s catch up on some odds and ends from around the division:
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Tuesday morning that they have signed wide receiver Carlton Mitchell. He appeared in 16 career games for Cleveland.
- The revelation of Dallas’ draft board continues to cause a stir. The Cowboys had third-round grades on cornerbacks Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford. The Falcons chose Trufant in the first round and Alford in the second. The Cowboys also had a sixth-round grade on cornerback Johnthan Banks, who was taken by Tampa Bay in the second round. I wouldn’t get too riled up about Dallas’ draft board. Not all boards are going to look the same and it’s not like Dallas is the gold standard when it comes to success in the draft.
- The Buccaneers have hired Nelson Luis as their director of communications. Luis previously worked as a communications assistant for the Bucs from 1995 through 1999. Luis has spent the past 12 years as director of media relations for the NBA’s Houston Rockets.
