Time for an afternoon drive through some news and notes from around the division:

ATLANTA FALCONS

Matt Ryan likely will get a contract extension worth a fortune at some point. But his wife is going to work. Sarah Ryan has accepted a job with the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA. That’s a logical place for Sarah Ryan, who played college basketball at Boston College.

The city of Atlanta has until Aug. 1 to decide between two potential sites for the Falcons’ new stadium.

CAROLINA PANTHERS

The memorial service for Jon Richardson, son of owner Jerry Richardson, has been set for Friday in Charlotte.

Max Henson has an overview on the linebackers. If Jon Beason and Thomas Davis can stay healthy, this unit could be one of the best in the league. But free-agent pickup Chase Blackburn gives the Panthers some solid depth in case injuries are a problem.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

WWLTV.com ponders whether or not Jonathan Vilma can return to top form this season. I have enormous respect for Vilma, but I’m not sure he will ever be the same player he was a few years ago. He’s 31 and has had knee problems. The Saints also are switching to a 3-4 defense, a scheme Vilma didn’t excel in when he played for the New York Jets.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Although training camp doesn’t start until next week, the Bucs took advantage of a league rule that allowed them to have their rookies report Wednesday.
