Travelle Wharton meeting with Panthers

July, 23, 2013
It appears as if there’s a good chance Travelle Wharton could be back with the team he played for during the first eight years of his career.

Wharton is visiting the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, a league source said. That makes plenty of sense because the Panthers could use some depth on their offensive line.

But Wharton, who was released by Cincinnati on Monday, could provide more than depth. Wharton has spent most of his career at guard, but also has played some tackle. He’s been a solid starter throughout his career.

The Panthers could view Wharton as a candidate to come in and challenge Geoff Hangartner for a starting spot at guard or even as competition for Byron Bell at right tackle.
