Chris Simms
 Simms

The Bucs have been keeping a poker face when it comes to reserve quarterback Chris Simms for months. They're going to have to fold or play a very weak hand before they start training camp July 26.

Presumably, they're holding out hope they can get a draft pick in exchange for Simms, who hasn't taken a snap since 2006. But that's a big presumption. One general manager from another team said last week he didn't think any team will part with a draft pick because the Bucs have telegraphed so clearly that Simms isn't in their plans.

The same general manager also said he thought the Bucs have held onto Simms to "mess'' with him after the quarterback ripped coach Jon Gruden. But the Bucs can't mess with Simms much longer. With roster limits lowered to 80 this year, the Bucs can't afford to carry Simms into training camp.

Unless some team gets desperate in the meantime, the Bucs will have to fold and release Simms before camp starts.
